Much like the divine intervention of a 'Deus Ex Machina' that delights the audience of a Greek Tragedy, Sugrue's first Rose is celebrated as a God-given wine 'from the sky', triumphing against the odds of a tricky growing season prior to its 2016 debut.
The stars aligned once again for this 2018 vintage, with consistently warm temperatures and sunlight bringing depth and ripeness to the fruit. The Coldharbour Vineyard, planted on West Sussex Chalk, produced a fresh and vibrant sparkling Rose. Aromas of orange peel, rose petals and peach are followed by red-fruits and herbaceous notes on the palate. This concentration and purity of fruit is also credit to the winemaking techniques, with 100% stainless steel fermentation followed by four and a half years on lees. There is a creaminess to the mouthfeel and a persistent aftertaste that enhances its complexity and reveals its gastronomic potential.
"Boasts generous ripe summer berries, red cherry and frangipane with toasty complexity to reflect the generous vintage. Mellow and welcoming on the palate, featuring red apple and white pepper-spiced strawberry & cream. Well-balanced with decent acidity. Red apple peel bitterness leads to a long, refreshing finish." 94 Points, Sylvia Wu, Decanter
