Nebbiolo

75cl * 14.5% ABV * Barolo, Piedmont. Italy

Cannubi is considered the Grand Cru of Barolo, an extraordinary wine in terms of style and elegance. The quality of the grapes from old vines, between 30 and 50 years old, in the famed Barolo Cannubi vineyard comes from the particular composition of the soil. A high percentage of sand gives the grapes intense aromas of cherry, plum and tobacco.

Cannubi Riserva is the flagship wine of Damilano Azienda Agricola, a family-owned Barolo estate founded in 1890. The origins of the Damilano family company dates back to over a century ago, when Guiseppe Borgogno, the great-grandfather of the current owners, started to grow and make wine from his own grapes. This tradition was kept up by Giacomo Damilano, the founder’s son-in-law, together with his children, until it was passed on to his 4 grandchildren, who very attentively manage their forefathers’ land today.

The wine is called “1752” to honour the year in which the first bottle was marked “Cannubi” and 2010 is the highest scored Barolo vintage of the last 50 years. This wine is phenomenally rare and Taurus Wines have the last 6 bottles for retail in the UK!

Deep garnet-ruby in colour, the bouquet is intense and balanced, with notes of violet, cherry and plum, spices, liquorice, cocoa, leather and tobacco. Dry, robust, full-bodied, very persistent, rich and velvety.

99 points, James SucklingThe aromas of this wine are perfect with decadent and wild fragrances of sliced fresh mushrooms, truffles, blackberries. Incredible complexity. Full and balanced. Racy, refined and amazing. The spirit of Cannubi. Drink or hold. But why wait?

Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateThe 2010 Barolo Riserva Cannubi 1752 is infused with savory tones of leather, spice and smoke. Those specific aromas add to the immense sense of sophistication and elegance that is exuded from the bouquet of this deeply layered Barolo. Opening to a dark garnet color with little light saturation, this beautiful Nebbiolo is expressive and articulate; it is an especially worthy spokesperson for this classic vintage. At its core, the wine delivers dark, luscious dark fruit that still has primary freshness at this young stage. Otherwise, this Riserva is also far enough along to show tertiary tones of balsam herb and liquorice.

Drink to 2040.
