Situated in the heart of the hilly northern Mâconnais, the vines of the Domaine du Bouchet are planted on stony slopes and plateaus that face the sun. The appellation of Mâcon-Lugny is spread across the three communes of Lugny, Bissy-la-Maconnaise, and Saint-Gengoux-de-Scisse, and benefits from limestone soils that confer both freshness and complexity to the wines from these valleys.
The 400-members of the wine-making cooperative in Lugny produce 85-90% of the wine that comes from the village and the negociants such as Louis Latour and Louis Jadot all buy their wine from them, and apart from the single vineyard sites, eg: “Les Charmes”, “Les Genievres”, the wine is by-and-large the same. Jadot’s ‘Bouchet’ however is made by Louis Jadot themselves in their winery in Beaune from grapes purchased from the Co-op from the single vineyard site. Meaning higher quality grapes and a beautiful expression of terroir, rarely seen at this price point.
Pretty floral aromas give way to a bright and fresh palate with vibrant acidity and a hint of saline earthiness over the long graceful finish. A charming, fresh, creamy and rounded wine of pure orchard fruit flavours.
