Merlot, Cabernet-Franc

75cl * 14.5% ABV * Lalande-de-Pomerol, Bordeaux, France

Château Siaurac is located on the plateau of Néac, which is a continuation of the famous plateau of Pomerol, and its vineyard is in one single plot. It is the largest estate of the appellation and comprises 46 hectares of planted vine and is one of the most iconic estates of its appellation. Indeed, as remarked upon in Férét’s 1893 edition of Bordeaux et ses vins: “Château Siaurac is only separated from the first growths of Pomerol by a small trickle of water called the Barbane.”

The appellation is situated close to the point where both the Isle and Dordogne rivers converge and is protected on the southwestern side by the hill at Fronsac. Influenced by the Atlantic Ocean, it benefits from good climatic conditions: sunny, warm and dry summers followed by clement autumns, which encourage the grapes to ripen perfectly. The soil dates from the tertiary era and is made of alluvial deposits which were formed as the Pyrenees and Massif Central came into being.

Château Siaurac's Merlot-based wines have smaller percentages of Cabernet Franc and just a kiss of Malbec, lending them an incredibly friendly, charming and easy-drinking quality. The 2020 vintage Chateau Siaurac is a deep, rich colour with aromas of black cherry, spice, herbs and a hint of chocolate on the nose. It is full-bodied, generously-juicy and very quaffable with great structure. The palate seduces with its smooth touch and balance, as well as its intense aromatic palate and elegant freshness.

Drinking from 2023 to 2037, this Lalande-de-Pomerol offers ready-to-drink claret at a decent price.

"An easy, pleasurable wine with plenty of mouth-wateringly berry fruits and some concentration evident in the spice on the finish. No need to wait too long for this. New owners Suravenir insurance, Penelope Godefroy remains as winemaker as she was under Artemis Estates. Organic." 92 points, Jane Anson (May 2021)

"The 2020 Siaurac is absolutely gorgeous. A wine of refinement and class, Siaurac bristles with energy. Dark cherry, plum, mocha, spice and leather all develop in the glass, but it is the wine's purity that leaves the strongest impression. The 2020 is impeccable from start to finish." 90-92 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"Smoke, truffles, black cherries, licorice, spice and a hint of chocolate create the character here. Supple, creamy and fresh, with sweetness and scorched earth nuances on the palate that work perfectly with all the sweet, fresh cherries and a touch of spearmint in the finish. You can enjoy this young, as well as age it for more secondary nuances. Drink from 2023-2040." 92 points, Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider
