Cossart Gordon & Co. was established in 1745 and is the oldest company in the Madeira Wine trade. The family joined the Madeira Wine Company in 1958 and to this day, Cossart Gordon Madeiras are considered the very finest available.
Made in the same year that the Playstation was first released, this sweet Madeira wine has been aged for 28 years in very old oak casks. Mahogany in colour with golden reflections. The nose is characteristically lush, ethereal with notes of brandy infusion and toasted oak, dried leaves, and tea molasses. Sweet but fresh on the palate, this Madeira is concentrated, leaving a long aftertaste of dry fig-like fruits and resinous woods.
Decanting will help remove any deposit that may have occurred in bottle over time. Serve at 13°C. Excellent as an digestif.
~ Taurus tasting note ~
Aromas of old oloroso sherry, black tea, leather and candied orange. Very rich on the palate but still fresh and delicate with signature curry leaf character of old Madeira.
"Wines from Cossart Gordon are traditionally made in a slightly drier style than Blandy’s, supposedly to appeal to the American market. This wine made from Malvasia grapes grown at São Jorge on the north coast of Madeira is still intensely rich with 128g/l residual sugar. Deep amber with an olive-green glint. Rich, heady dried fruit compote on the nose, with a hint of roasted coffee bean. Intense and figgy with the reassuring richness of a good fruit cake mid-palate; a touch of astringency leading to a long mellifluous yet predominantly fresh finish." 95 points, Tasted by: Richard Mayson at Madeira Wine Company New Releases 2023 Tasting (16 Aug 2023)
