Shiraz
75cl * 14.5% ABV * Clare Valley, Australia
Kilikanoon was founded in 1997 when winemaker and proprietor Kevin Mitchell purchased the property of the same name in the hamlet of Penwortham in South Australia’s picturesque Clare Valley. The vineyards are located in an area with a viticultural history dating back to 1851. Kevin's father Mort Mitchell has been a defining influence, planting and tending to Kilikanoon's Golden Hillside suite of vineyards including the famed Mort's Block, for over 40 years.
Mr Killerman, as a young Mort Mitchell called him, lived alone in a humble tin shed in the hills behind the Kilikanoon Cellar Door. Entirely self-sufficient, he grew his own fruit & vegetables and roamed the valley for his meals with rabbits being his favourite gourmet treat. Mort grew to know and respect this man of the bush, learning the secrets of the land and how to become one with the environment. The Killerman's Run range of approachable wines showcases the distinguished and varied terroir of the Clare Valley and the Kilikanoon philosophy of uncompromised quality and consistency. The Killerman’s Run Shiraz is made from premium parcels of fruit selected from right across the Clare Valley.
Enhanced aromatics of black forest, dark cherry and stewed plums with vanilla and notes of clove and subtle oaky char feature on the nose. Impressive structure, complexity, and generosity of flavour abound in this Shiraz, flavours of stewed cherries, juicy blackberry and plum with fine dark chocolate and powdery tannins. Clove and star anise and peppery spice are beautifully balanced and supported by subtle oak. Maturation in a selection of seasoned French oak hogsheads for fifteen months provides a softness and elegance to the silky palate.
Best enjoyed young and fresh, although with very careful cellaring, this has potential to last 10+ years. Pair with roast beef and all the trimmings, Moroccan lamb, pizza or try with a rich vegetable Ragu.
