Gewurztraminer
75cl * Organic * 13.5% ABV * Alsace, France
The partnership between Jean and Pierre Dietrich of Domaine Achillée and Xavier Couturier and Pierre Sanchez of Duo Oenologie was inspired by the words of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's quote, “We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children”.
The Pépin creators work with several small Alsatian winegrowers, all friends who have each been working organically for many years. The collaboration runs right through from grape growing to vinification. Made from precisely selected grapes, each stage is in accordance to ancestral winemaking techniques. Vinified using only the naturally occurring indigenous yeasts, and without any winemaking inputs, including sulphur, the skins of the grapes remain in contact with the must for an extended period, giving Pépin Orange its distinctive golden, orange colour and aromatic depth. The wine is also unfiltered.
An accessible natural wine, with beautiful bitter notes. Apricot orange in the glass, the nose is full of aromatic bitter lemon, tangerine, sweet spices, ripe orchard fruit, a more than a hint of rose water. These flavours are echoed in the palate where there's lots of precision, juicy fruit, a freshness and well-integrated tannins. Very gluggable, or as the French say "du glouglou".
Serve between 7-9°C as an aperitif, with spicy cuisine, lemon tart, baked cheese dishes.
